Words from the Sphere

Words from the Sphere: Estuary writing in the Thameside Nature Discovery Park to launch 'the poetry bench'.

Join writers Lucia Dove, Jessica Taggart Rose, Gareth Evans, Daniel Kramb and many more to be announced for this celebration of writing from, inspired by, and about the estuary.

The event at the Thameside Nature Discovery Park marks the launch of "the poetry bench,” a stacked timber structure that has a selection of Daniel Kramb’s Little Estuaries engraved by wood-burning artist Fawn Brinkley.

The bench, part of the SEEPark project, overlooks the 11-hectare Golden Gates Lake in this wild haven on the banks of the Thames, opening out into the estuary.

Expect poetry, fiction, non-fiction, performance and art.

About the organisers

Daniel Kramb is a writer and poet.  In his latest book of poetry, Little Estuaries (The New Menard Press), he goes in search of what’s fleeting between the shores. Amid a constantly shifting sense of what can be seen, sensed or experienced, he probes the estuary as sphere: an opening up, a possibility. Silt-smeared and salty, this is poetry not on landscape, but through it: formed not by what exists, but from what’s washed up within.

Daniel is a member of Malika’s Poetry Kitchen, and his prose history of the collective appears in their 2021 anthology Too Young Too Loud Too Different. Fiction includes Central (2015), From Here (2012), and Dark Times (2010). Look at Us is a play collaboration with JJ Bola. Other writing has appeared in The London Magazine, Prototype, Popshot and elsewhere.

Daniel is a trustee of Modern Poetry in Translation. He moved to London, from Germany, in 2003, and is currently based where the Thames becomes the sea.
