The Cinder Path Project will investigate the successful campaign 50 years ago to stop a major road “The Road To The West” being built along the Cinder Path from Chalkwell to Old Leigh, a very local story that has been largely forgotten. The people who set up the Leigh Seafront Action Group are now in their 80s, and this will commemorate their efforts in a body of new works. This is a project about hope, ecology and a better future.
There will be cyanotype photographs, a film of the walk from Chalkwell to Old Leigh will show the distance, it's beauty, ordinariness and the particular bits that intrigue me, and how this path could have been destroyed.
